About ROWONTARIO:

ROWONTARIO is recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport as the not-for-profit governing body for rowing in the Province of Ontario. We are a volunteer-led organization of 60 members clubs and 8000 individual members. We have an office staff based in the ROWONTARIO office and coaching staff based out of training centres. Our vision is every Ontario community with a safe and accessible body of water has a rowing club functioning at optimal capacity. Our mission is ROWONTARIO aims to enhance rowing participation and excellence through implementation for the FUNdamentals to Active for Life stages of Canadian Sport for Life (LTAD) model.

Position Information:

The Office Assistant responsibilities include bookkeeping, A/R, A/P, invoicing, filing and general office administration as required by the organization. We are looking for someone with experience with Simply Accounting or similar accounting software and previous bookkeeping experience.

Skills & Qualifications

-College or University diploma in an accounting or business program.
- Previous experience and understanding of accounting software, experience with Simply Accounting an asset.
-Excellent knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and general office equipment.
-Excellent customer service skills.
-Well developed organizational, time management and analytical skills.
-Experience in a not-for-profit environment would be an asset.

Compensation: Hourly compensation will be based on experience

Please note registrations will now only be submitted through the RCA Web Registration system. You no longer need to send information to both RCA and RO. Rowing Canada is doing one on one training in the new system with all clubs. ROWONTARIO is also planning information webinars for May and June.

We are very pleased to announce that Bob Van Tywver has been appointed Head Coach of the Don Rowing Club of Mississauga for the 2012 season. He comes to us as a highly qualified coach with over twenty years of experience in rowing, coaching and club management.

Bob will provide us with leadership in coaching services across all our rowing programs from May through until the end of October.

Bob was a competitive rower himself, having competed in the FISA World Championships. He has coached at the high school, university and club levels in Florida. Currently he coaches at the Florida Rowing Center where he will return in November.

Bob is able to coach both sweep and sculling boats equally. He is well versed in video recording of on-water rowing and strongly believes that this sort of feedback is crucial. Bob has demonstrated that through his technical teaching skills in sculling and sweeping alike, he has made boats go faster.

Bob is an excellent communicator and his trademark is excellent athlete relation skills. He anticipates working closely with all of our program coaches towards a highly successful 2012 season.

The Don Rowing Club is getting ready for the 2012 season with the Membership Open House this weekend, Saturday March 31 from 10 – 12 noon and the docks in early next week. Come join us on the water!

]]><![CDATA[Ontario Erg Champs- Draw and Information]]>Fri, 02 Mar 2012 08:49:44 -0500http://www.rowontario.ca/1/post/2012/03/ontario-erg-champs-draw-and-information.htmlAttached is a draw for Saturday's races of the 25th Anniversary Ontario Ergometer Championships. It's another big event, with over 800 entries again this year! As usual there have been a number of emails and changes already, and some late entries will be inputted tomorrow. A few of the races are quite full, so please let us know of scratches (in advance, and on the day too).

Weigh-ins will be open from 7:30 on (until race time), and we know that some rowers will end up having to change category. If you know of anyone in the wrong race, please let us know NOW so we can try to find lanes and make things run smoothly at registration. This not only helps us, but makes it so that rowers (and parents or coaches) don't have to wait and be stressed with uncertainty and delay.

The Ridley field house is set up with 30 race ergs and 30 warm-up ergs. Registration will be inside the door and to the left upon arrival, with the scales next to registration. Washrooms are in the hall (and more are along the far hall, or even upstairs). The raffle table (old scull, painted in National colours) will be near the announcer (and they will also sell water and granola bars, as well as having some freebies of Rowing Canada technique posters). Val's (our sponsor, and provider of the fantastic Top Ten T-shirts) is also just inside the door, and Jl and RegattaSport will be in the middle. More seating will available this year, with large bleachers next to the racing (- already set up for the OFSAA basketball tournament which starts on Monday).

Looking forward to another big day of racing. Over 800 entries again this year! Good luck to all!

Long-term Athlete Development and how programs can best meet the needs of high school rowers in their first or second competitive season: The session includes training considerations given technical proficiency, stage objectives and developing physical capacities. Paul, a successful high school coach and now a RowOntario development centre coach, shares his expertise and experience regarding types of workouts that are developmentally appropriate, and some of the challenges with implementing the LTAD model.

Vincent Cote - LTAD – Learning to Train and the High School Rower - March 21

The first stage for an introduction to rowing is the “Learning to train” stage where the athlete is taught how to row. Grip, posture, balance, rhythm and basic blade work are introduced and reinforced in this stage. Join Vincent Cote of the Quebec Rowing Association, who is a successful coach and athlete at all levels of the sport. Vincent, who is bilingual, will share his expertise and tricks of the trade on how to teach proper rowing technique to the beginner.
