Mentoring Resources

Mentor Umpires should review the Rules of Racing with their Associate, using the summary provided at the winter training session.

While umpiring and providing mentoring to the Associate, a Mentor may wish to use the Mentor Umpire’s Post-Regatta Debrief Worksheet. This may be used to jot down notes through the mentoring session. It is appropriate to review these notes with the Associate after the session.

The summary of the Mentor’s observations of the Associate should be recorded on the RCA Associate Umpire Developmental Form. These duplicate forms will be provided by the ROWONTARIO office, or may be downloaded from this website. The Associate should be provided with a copy of the Umpire Developmental Form, so that s/he may keep track of their progress.

The other copy of the RCA Associate Umpire Developmental Form should be handed to the Chief Umpire or faxed to the ROWONTARIO Office (Fax #: 416-426-7309). All Associate Umpire assessments will be collected to assist in determining when might be an appropriate time for the Associate to write the Umpire Exams.
