ROWONTARIO (RO) is seeking expressions of interest to fill two (2) positions on the RO Sanctions Committee.
The mandate of the Sanctions Committee is to provide an effective event sanctioning service to member clubs and associations that is timely, adheres to the RCA Rules of Racing and Sanction Policy, and offers support to members to enhance the safety and fairness of regattas held in Ontario.
The RO Sanctions Committee meets at least twice a year, with most committee business being conducted by email and conference call.
This is an opportunity for someone in the Ontario rowing community with experience on a regatta organizing committee, either as a Regatta Chair or as a Chief Umpire.
The ideal candidate will possess an in-depth understanding of the RCA Rules of Racing and an understanding of how they are applied at regattas of various size, level of competition and geographic location. Collaboration with fellow committee members is a must, as well as strong oral and written communication. The ideal candidate must be available to review sanction applications in a timely fashion (within 48 hours of submission).
As well as reviewing sanction applications and providing recommendations to the Sanctions Officer, the RO Sanctions Committee provides advice to the RO Board on policies and procedures related to regatta sanctioning and event management. From time to time, the Committee will also provide advice to Member Clubs and Associations, via RO staff, to help standardize and improve the quality of events hosted in Ontario. The full Terms of Reference is available here.
The position reports to the ROWONTARIO Sanctions Officer, who reports directly to the Executive Director.
The individual should be available to hold the role for a minimum of one (1) year. Inquiries about this position can be sent to Andrea Miller, ROWONTARIO Sport Development Manager.
Expressions of interest should be submitted by April 22nd, 2019, or until the position is filled, to ROWONTARIO with “RO Sanctions Committee Expression of Interest” in the subject line. Please include details of your involvement in rowing, particularly as it relates to the candidate profile described above.
While we appreciate all applications, only those selected for an interview or named to the committee will be contacted.
