On Sunday, February 7, 2016, athletes gathered at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga for the 33rd Canadian Indoor Rowing Championships. Sponsored by Concept 2, 32 brand new Race ergs were brought to Mississauga for athletes of all ages to pull 2000m.

As one of the largest Indoor Events in Canada, with 905 competitors this year ranging in age from 8-80, the arena was crowded with athletes and fans roaring at the Start of each event and cheering on athletes as they completed the 2000 meters. There were many tight races, and gazes stared upwards to the Jumbotron to see who was holding the fastest split and who was making a move. Each event was hotly contested with many Personal Bests being recorded by individuals.

The Junior, Under 23, and Senior events featured many of the 2015 Can Am Mex team along with Junior and Under 23 World Championship team members which made for competitive racing. Other participants included Team Ontario prospects for the 2017 Canada Summer Games. As CIRC Organizing Committee Chair, Susan Kitchen adds, “the Junior Boys race was hotly contested with 73 young men racing for gold”.

“Many thanks to the many volunteers from different clubs helping out to make the event run smoothly” – Susan Kitchen.
