The fifth challenge of the Trillium Chase was a new regatta to Ontario. Although not a Trillium Chase original, this regatta brought something new and fun to its participants. The Muskoka Poker Run was a success for the Hatchets Rowing Centre in Port Carling, ON. This epic 22km 1x race brought 23 competitors, representing 9 clubs, to Muskoka Lake on Saturday, August 18th, 2018.

The competitors took to the lake early Saturday morning. All competition categories were represented by the 9 men and 14 women participating. The categories included U19, Senior, Masters, and Grand Masters. All competitors rowed racing shells, although open water shells were also welcome. The top two fastest times of the day were separated by less than 5 seconds, with Mick Malowany of Hanlan Boat Club coming in first with an overall time of 1:41:02.3. Stephen Harris of Guelph Rowing Club was not far behind with an overall time of 1:41:06.66. The top female finisher with an overall time of 1:45:45.1 was Jaclyn Stelmaszyk of Durham Rowing Club. Congratulations to all those who competed!

Not only did the competitors have a great day, but the officials also enjoyed the opportunity to participate in this new, fun regatta. Pictured is RCA Umpire Leslie Milbury enjoying her ride in a spectacular boat. We’d like to thank Hatchets Rowing Centre for offering a new and fun regatta and for allowing their new regatta to the fifth challenge of the Trillium Chase. We’d like to send out a huge thank you to all of the participants, coaches, umpires, and volunteers who worked hard to make this new idea a success. We can’t wait to see this regatta grow!

The next challenge of the Trillium Chase is the Head of the Rideau in Ottawa, ON on September 23rd, 2018. For more information on the Trillium Chase, please see the Trillium Chase tab on www.rowontario.ca.
