ROWONTARIO is currently accepting applications for the position of Under-17 Provincial Team Coach (x2) – volunteer.
ROWONTARIO is recognized by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport as the not-for-profit governing body of rowing in the Province of Ontario. We are a volunteer-led organization of over 60 member clubs and over 5,000 individual members. We deliver programs to support the development of rowing athletes, coaches, officials and clubs across Ontario.
As one of our U17 Provincial Coaches you will contribute to the advancement of the best U17 rowers the Province of Ontario has to offer. You will help deliver a program designed to support and provide opportunities for these athletes to compete against the best U17 athletes in the country.
About the U17 Program:
The U17 program is a new Provincial Team program that will be delivered by ROWONTARIO starting in the summer of 2018. The key purpose of this program is to provide an opportunity for the best U17 athletes in the province to gain more high-level competition and experience against the best U17 athletes from across Canada.
The ROWONTARIO U17 program will give selected athletes the opportunity to race at the 2018 National Rowing Championships (NRC) and Canada Cup Regattas in Burnaby, BC. The regattas this year will be held from November 8-11th. Athletes will compete in the NRC portion of the event as individuals in the 1X, and then compete together in the Canada Cup portion as a U17 4X.
Athlete selection will require athletes to participate in the ROWONTARIO Championship Regatta in London, ON July 28 and July 29, 2018. The first, second, third and fourth place U17 age eligible finishers in the Men’s and Women’s 1x event will be named to the team. In the event, that an eligible athlete is unable to participate in the program and withdraws then the next age eligible finisher in the event will be given the opportunity to be named to the team.
Job Responsibilities Include:
- Liaise with selected athlete’s, their parent’s and their current coaches to ensure a seamless continuation of training as we transition from summer to fall. Assistance can be provided by ROWONTARIO High Performance Manager (ROHPM) in this regard.
- Work with selected athlete’s coaches to create and deliver an effective training plan from September 1 thru mid November.
- Organize and host, with the assistance of ROHPM, 2 weekend camps in September and October to facilitate training in the 4X
- Be available to attend the 2018 National Rowing Championships and Canada Cup Regatta, Burnaby, BC, November 2018. The current plan is to depart on November 6 and return on November 12.
- Abide by ROWONTARIO’s Team Travel Policy (July 2018)
Essential Skills required:
- At minimum RCA Performance Coach Trained and working towards certification. However, RCA Performance Coach preferred.
The U17 Provincial team coach position is an honorarium-based position. In addition, the coaches have the cost of their trip to the NRC regatta covered. This will include flight, accommodation, ground transport and meals.
