The development of umpires is a priority of ROWONTARIO’s and we are excited to launch this new initiative which will increase the development opportunities for umpires in the province.

As the province of Ontario has a vast geography, ROWONTARIO recognizes that it can be difficult for some umpires to attend regattas that provide meaningful learning opportunities to support their development. This is especially true for newer umpires who may not have the established networking connections of their more senior counterparts. To help support our umpires achieve their needed development, ROWONTARIO has allocated up to $3,000 towards a new ROWONTARIO Umpire Development Program in 2018.

The goal of this program is to provide some financial support to Associate or licensed umpires needing to travel a significant distance to participate at large regattas in Ontario. ROWONTARIO would like to offer some financial support to a minimum of 3 umpires annually. Priority will be given to those umpires who reside outside of Southern Ontario (i.e., to those in Southwest, East, North-Central or North regions), are newly licensed, or are working towards being eligible for the licensing exam. To be eligible for the program, applicants must be registered with ROWONTARIO as an umpire and be actively umpiring.

The exciting announcement comes paired with the announcement of the National Umpire Development Program offered by RCA. This program will offer financial support to umpires across Canada.

For more information on both of these program, please see the program page, Umpire Development.
