Selection of Jury Members-2012 National RegattasPlease be advised that RCA is preparing the selection of the juries for the following 2012 Canadian national regattas:
· 2012 Royal Canadian Henley Regatta: St.Catharines, ON (non-locals only) (August 6 - 12) * · 2012 RCA Canadian Masters Championships: Montreal, QC (August 24 - 26) · 2012 Canadian University Rowing Association Championships (CURA / CURC): (Nov. 3 - 4) Burnaby Lake, B.C. · 2012 RCA National Rowing Championships: Elk Lake, Victoria, B.C. (November 9 - 11) *For the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta, a solicitation letter will be sent to all local umpires, and umpires not supported by the RCA Jury Support program, a few weeks prior to the regatta requesting assistance for the regatta. All RCA licensed umpires, who are in good standing with RCA and their provincial rowing association (PRA), are warmly invited to apply for nomination to one or more of the above named four juries. Also, following the previous application process for a Chief Umpire (CU) or Assistant Chief Umpire (ACU) position to the 2012 National Regattas, please note that if you are selected as a CU/ACU your name will then be withdrawn from consideration as jury member for that specific National Regatta. All Ontario Umpires who are interested in being considered for nomination to one or more of the 2012 RCA National Regatta Juries must complete the attached form and submit their expression of interest to Ashley Lewis via email to admin@rowontario.ca by THURSDAY JANUARY 12, 2012. Applications received by fax will not be acknowledged or considered by ROWONTARIO. If you wish to be considered for more than one Jury appointment, you must rank your choices in order of preference and indicate your ranking on the form. The ROWONTARIO selection committee will then review, rank and compile the Ontario nominations, and submit to RCA on or before January 18, 2012. All umpires selected by Rowing Canada Aviron will be informed of their appointment not later than March 10th, 2012. RCA Jury Support As in past years, RCA will cover transportation, accommodation and meal costs as per RCA policy for the appointed jury members. Details on the coverage are available by contacting RCA Domestic Development Officer – Sport Technical, Dave Derry at dderry@rowingcanada.org 905-682-1747 (office). If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. | RCA UMPIRE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMIn addition to providing opportunities to participate on National Regatta Juries, in an effort to expand its support of Umpire Development, RCA has created the RCA Umpire Development Program. Background information on this recently approved program is attached for your review. (Dates have been adjusted for the 2012 program, as the policy was just approved by the RCA Board of Directors and circulated to the provinces.) The RCA Umpires Committee feels that development opportunities across the country are vital to the continued development and retention of umpires. With this in mind, the Umpires Committee has created the Rowing Canada Aviron Umpires Development Program. Through the generous donation of the Organizing Committee of the 2001 Montreal FISA Masters Regatta, a fund was created for the development of umpiring in Canada. Using a portion of this fund as well as the umpires committee budgeted funds, the RCA Umpires Committee shall provide support to umpires on an annual basis to take advantage of development opportunities at specified regattas strategically placed across Canada. This program will be contingent on the RCA annual operating budget. The committee will allocate support to a maximum of $2500.00 for this program for the fiscal year 2012-2013 to assist umpires to attend the following regattas: Brentwood Regatta – April 27th to April 29th, 2012, Mill Bay, British Columbia. Eastern Rowing Association Championships – July 7-8, 2012, Montreal, Quebec. ROWONTARIO Championship Regatta – July 28-29, 2012, Welland, Ontario. In accordance with the terms of this RCA program, a candidate selected from Ontario would be directed to the Ontario Championships or possibly the ERA Championships, depending on the candidate’s home town. If you are interested in being considered for this program, please email your application to Ashley Lewis by Thursday January 12 at admin@rowontario.ca . The following information must be included in your email: a) Your name; b) Year licensed; c) Regatta which you would like to be considered for; d) Short explanation outlining how this will benefit your development as an umpire; e) A written commitment that, if selected, you will attend the regatta, regardless of funding level provided by the RCA program. (The program will only cover part of the Umpire’s out of pocket expenses, not your full cost) Applications received by fax will not be acknowledged or considered by ROWONTARIO. The ROWONTARIO selection committee will then review the applications, and submit the Ontario nomination to RCA on or before January 18, 2012. All umpires selected by Rowing Canada Aviron will be informed of their appointment not later than March 15th, 2012. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. |
