The RCA Learn to Row Coach Workshop is a NCCP recognized 1-day workshop that is ideal for instructors or coaches working with participants in a non-competitive context. These participants could range in age from 10-65+ and be participating in programs such as summer camp, adult recreational leagues or Learn to Row programs, to name a few examples. This workshop provides coaches instruction on practice planning, rowing technique, rigging and teaching rowers new to the sport.  After taking this workshop, instructors/coaches will be equipped with lesson plans, appropriate drills, and will know how to better set up equipment to ensure a comfortable and injury-free rowing experience.

The RCA Learn to Row Coach workshop includes classroom curriculum facilitated by a trained NCCP Learning Facilitator, as well as practical experience in the following areas:

  1. RCA & the New NCCP
  2. Roles & Responsibilities
  3. Analyze Performance – The Rowing Stroke
  4. Safety, Risk Management, & the EAP
  5. Plan a Learn to Row Lesson
  6. Teach an LTR Lesson
  7. Teaching & Learning
  8. Adaptive Rowing
  9. Modifying the LTR Program for My Clubs Needs

Upon completion of the workshop, coaches will be considered “Trained” in the Learn to Row context.  After applying the concepts learned, coaches are will complete their coach portfolio and be observed by a trained NCCP Coach Evaluator to become “Certified”.

Workshop Prerequisites:

Note:  It is each coach’s responsibility to ensure the course pre-requisites are completed.  A coach may attend an NCCP Workshop without having completed the prerequisites, all pre-requisites must be completed in order to receive “Trained” status in the NCCP Locker.  ROWONTARIO strongly encourages coaches to complete all pre-requisites prior to taking the workshop, not only to receive credit in the NCCP Locker but also to maximize your experience in the workshop.
