The RCA Learn to Row Coach Workshop is a NCCP recognized 1.5 day workshop that is ideal for instructors or coaches working with athletes in the Learn to Row stages of the Long Term Athlete Development model. These athletes could range in age from 10-65 and be participating in programs for youth, kids camps, university students, or adults taking a Learn to Row course.  This workshop provides coaches instructions on practice planning, rowing technique, rigging and teaching rowers new to the sport.  Not only does this workshop provide you with 12 lesson plans to use or adapt for your own program, but it also introduces drills, and how to set up equipment, to ensure a comfortable, injury-free, rowing experience.

Learn to Row includes classroom curriculum facilitated by a trained Learn to Row Learning Facilitator, as well as practical, hands-on experience in the following modules:

  1. RCA & the New NCCP
  2. Roles & Responsibilities
  3. Analyze Performance – The Rowing Stroke
  4. Safety, Risk Management, & the EAP
  5. Plan a Learn to Row Lesson
  6. Teach an LTR Lesson
  7. Teaching & Learning
  8. Adaptive Rowing
  9. Modifying the LTR Program for My Clubs Needs

Upon completion of the workshop, coaches will be considered “Trained” in the Learn to Row context.  After applying the concepts learned, coaches are encouraged to complete their Making Ethical Decisions online evaluation, coach portfolio, and direct observation evaluation to become “Certified”.
