It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ontario rower Emily Brettell on August 12, 2016 at the age of 17 years. Emily passed away suddenly at her home in Fonthill, Ontario. Funeral services were held on Thursday, Aug 18th with family, friends, numerous teammates, and coaches in attendance.

A promising rower, Emily was a participant in the ROWONTARIO Club Elite Program and Training Camps. Emily stood out within the rowing community for both her perfomance on the water and her love for the sport. As a high school rower, Emily was a double gold medalist this past year at CSSRA with E.L. Crossley and a two-time Stotesbury Cup gold medalist. She was also the 2015 ROWONTARIO Ergometer Champion for the Junior Women’s 135 lb event. As a member of the South Niagara Rowing Club, Emily had won numerous medals including the ROWONTARIO Championships and the U.S. Club Nationals in Cincinnati.

Emily did more than love rowing, she delighted in it. She worked at it passionately and put her heart and soul into every stroke and her team. To honour Emily,  as well as her spirit, drive, and determination, a boat will be purchased in her memory with any memorial donations received.
