ROWONTARIO Technical Director Mike Purcer joined athletes and coaches in Peterborough for training workouts and coaching development sessions on Friday and Saturday April 24 and 25. The Club Visits by Mike focus on coaching development and touch base with local club coaches and athletes. Another goal of the Club Visits is to identify high performance athletes for the 2017 Canada Games Team. “Peterborough is a fantastic rowing venue,” said Mike Purcer, “it has great water, and the club has excellent facilities and equipment as well as a good group of enthusiastic coaches.”

The Club Visit started on Friday afternoon as Mike joined Peterborough coaches, as a guest coach, for an on-water practice with high school crews. Saturday morning started at 7:00 am with a one hour coaching development session which included a discussion on rowing technique as well as using the Ubersense app for technique analysis. Next up on Saturday morning was an on-water session and Mike joined a number of coaches working with their crews. The morning ended with a rigging session including plenty of great discussion on the relationship between rigging, technique and power. “It was a great opportunity for me to meet coaches and make new friends while watching some hard work and good rowing,” said Mike.
