Weekend Wrap: Brock Invite Provides Valuable Test Run for OUA Champs

The last university regatta prior to the 2025 OUA Rowing Championships took place on Saturday as the Brock Invitational Regatta was hosted by the Brock Rowing Club at Martindale Waterways in St. Catharines.

The Thanksgiving weekend event saw 12 university rowing programs and 195 entries compete in varsity and novice events in a wide variety of boat classes. Varsity categories raced heats in the morning and A and B Finals in the afternoon, while novice competitors competed in heats only with times determining the overall winners. The Queen’s Gaels, who have won the last two OUA women’s championship banners, earned the most medals at the event with 16 (7 gold, 5 silver, 4 bronze). They were followed closely by the Brock Badgers, who have won the last four OUA men’s championship banners, with 15 medals (5 gold, 4 silver, 6 bronze) and the Western Mustangs with 12 (4 gold, 3 silver, 5 bronze).

Also reaching the podium on Saturday were the Toronto Varsity Blues (1 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze), Guelph Gryphons (4 silver), McMaster Marauders (2), Trent Excalibur (1), and Ontario Tech Ridgebacks (1).

University rowing programs across the province now have just under two weeks to prepare for the OUA Rowing Championships and Development Regatta, which will take place back at Martindale Waterways on Oct. 24-25.
