NCCP Pathways & Professional Development

Launched in 1974, the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) is the Coaching Association of Canada’s (CAC) flagship program, and has been identified as a world leader in coach education. It is currently the largest adult continuing education program in Canada. The NCCP gives coaches the confidence to succeed and is designed & delivered in partnership with the government of Canada, provincial/territorial governments, and national/provincial/territorial sport organizations.


RCA’s Coach Development Pathways

RCA Learn to Row Coach

RCA Learn to Row Coach is an NCCP-Instruction pathway best suited for coaches working with beginner rowers and/or those not preparing for competition.

RCA Learn to Row Coach certification involves:

  • Three e-Learning modules (RCA Rowing Essentials, NCCP Making Ethical Decisions, and NCCP Coach Initiation in Sport)
  • One day in-person workshop
  • Completion of an online portfolio
  • Direct evaluation with a trained NCCP Coach Evaluator

RCA Coach

RCA Coach is an NCCP Competition-Introduction pathway best suited for coaches working with rowers who intend to participate in inter-club competition, especially athletes at the Train to Train and Learn to Compete stages of long-term athlete development.

RCA Coach certification involves:

  • Three e-Learning modules (RCA Rowing Essentials, NCCP Making Ethical Decisions, and NCCP Coach Initiation in Sport)
  • Two two-day workshops, recommended to be completed with six months of active coaching between
  • Completion of an online portfolio
  • Direct evaluation with a trained NCCP Coach Evaluator

RCA Performance Coach

 RCA Performance Coach is an NCCP Competition-Development pathway best suited for coaches working with rowers moving into university and national competitions, and rowers at the Learn to Compete and Train to Compete stage preparing to enter international development competitions, including Canada Summer Games.

RCA Performance Coach certification involves:

  • RCA Rowing Essentials
  • Seven multi-sport NCCP modules
  • Three-day workshop, delivered annually in conjunction with the RCA Conference
  • Completion of an online portfolio
  • Three direct evaluations with a trained NCCP Coach Evaluator
