Andrew Backer joined Row Ontario as Executive Director in 2017 after serving in similar roles with both Rugby Ontario and Softball Ontario. Andrew entered into the amateur sport industry in 2001 when he first joined Softball Ontario as a Program Coordinator.  After time with Softball Ontario and then with the Ontario Soccer Association, where he served in three different capacities, Andrew earned the position of Chief Executive Officer with Rugby Ontario.

Andrew has extensive experience working professionally in the amateur sport sector along with many years of experience as a volunteer, holding many different positions such as coach and umpire, while sitting on the Board of Director for both community clubs and provincial organizations.

With more than 20 years’ experience, he excels at strategic planning, project and event management, program development and delivery as well as financial management.
