RowOn Beach Sprint Championships Announced for Aug. 19-20
Row Ontario is pleased to announce that the 2023 RowOn Beach Sprint Championships will take place on Aug. 19-20 from Ashbridges Bay Park Beach in Toronto.
The event is the inaugural RowOn Beach Sprint Championships and will be co-hosted by Row Ontario and the Hanlan Boat Club, one of the leading rowing clubs Canada in the coastal rowing and beach sprint disciplines.
“One of Row Ontario’s organizational goals is to grow the disciplines of the Coastal Rowing and Beach Sprints and we are very excited to co-host the inaugural RowOn Beach Sprint Championships with the Hanlan Boat Club in August,” said Andrew Backer, CEO of Row Ontario. “We hope this will be the first of many Beach Sprint events that we are involved in hosting and are grateful to work with the Hanlan Boat Club and the knowledgeable coaches and staff to bring this event to the Ontario rowing community. Ashbridges Bay will be full of excitement on Aug. 19-20 and we can’t wait to see it.”
The regatta will feature eight race categories, including the open and U19 men’s and women’s solo, the U19 men’s and women’s double, and the open and U19 mixed double. The action will kick off on the Saturday morning with solo races which will continue throughout the day before the doubles take to the water on Sunday. On both days, time trials will take place in the morning, followed by repechages, quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals, as required based on the number of entries.
With the regatta being hosted at Ashbridges Bay, there will be an exciting and festive atmosphere that will make for a very spectator-friendly event. The event is also a great opportunity for both new and veteran coastal rowers to try to their hand at Beach Sprints and help showcase the growing discipline of coastal rowing.
