St. Catharines Named as Location for 2026 RowOn Championships
Row Ontario announced the locations of their 2026 flatwater property regattas on Friday, highlighted by the Henley Course in St. Catharines being named as the venue of the 2026 RowOn Championships on July 18-19.
The 2026 edition of the RowOn Championships will mark the first time the event has been hosted in St. Catharines in quite some time. In addition to annually hosting regattas such as the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta and CSSRA Championships, the Henley Course has also been the site of several national and international events over the last few years including the 2022 Canada Summer Games and the 2024 World Rowing Championships.
“We’re pleased to announce St. Catharines as the location for the 2026 RowOn Championships,” said Andrew Backer, CEO of Row Ontario. “We always look forward to bringing this event to the Ontario rowing community and our goal is to keep improving it every year. The Henley Course is not only a world-class waterway to row on for the competitors but also has the infrastructure to make for a great viewing experience for spectators and athletes alike. We’re excited the bring Champs to St. Catharines this year and look forward to working with our partners at the Canadian Henley Rowing Corporation to run another great regatta.”
In addition to the RowOn Championships, St. Catharines was also named the host of the 2026 OUA Rowing Championships and Ontario University Development Regatta, which will take place on Oct. 30-31.
“The Canadian Henley Rowing Corporation is honoured to have our Henley Rowing Course and facilities in St. Catharines, Ontario chosen as the host venue in 2026 for the RowOn Championship, the Ontario University Development and the OUA Rowing Championship regattas,” said Jim Marino, Chair of the CHRC. “We are looking forward to providing a warm welcome and world-class rowing experience to the many talented athletes, and their dedicated coaches, rowing clubs, universities and supporters at these championship regattas.”
Also announced on Friday was the locations of the RowOn Masters Championships and Tony Biernacki Sr. Memorial Regatta, which will both take place on the North Course of the Welland International Flatwater Centre. The ‘Tony B’ will be the first Row Ontario property event hosted in 2026 and will run on Saturday, June 13, while the RowOn Masters Championship will be hosted on Sunday, July 12.
