Weekend Preview: Ontario Ergometer Championships Return to Ridley College
After a year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ontario Ergometer Championships return to Ridley College in St. Catharines on Saturday.
The 2022 edition of the event will be the 34th Ontario Ergometer Championships in history and will mark a return in Ontario to in-person indoor rowing competition. With Rowing Canada Aviron approving sanctioning for indoor events on Feb. 15, this weekend will be the first in-person indoor rowing event in Ontario in almost two years. The last in-person event was the McMaster 2X4 Challenge which took place on March 7, 2020.
Hosted by the Ridley Graduate Boat Club in the Ridley College Field House, this year’s event will feature junior high school, senior high school, masters and senior categories over lightweight and open divisions. Over 230 competitors have registered for the event from 21 clubs or high schools from across Ontario. The action will start at 9am and the last race is scheduled to take place at 4pm in what should be a furious day of indoor racing.
