Weekend Preview: University Rowing Takes Centre Stage at Brock Invite
After a week off during Thanksgiving weekend, rowing regattas will be back on Ontario waters on Saturday when the Brock Invite runs from St. Catharines, Ontario.
Hosted on the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta course, the university-only regatta will feature over 200 boats from 12 Ontario universities in what will be the last chance for university programs to test themselves against their rivals before the OUA Championships on Oct. 30. The host Brock Badgers will send the most boats to the start line with 32, followed by the Western Mustangs with 30. The Queen’s Gaels (24), Trent Excalibur (22), Ottawa Gee-Gees (20), McMaster Marauders (19), Guelph Gryphons (17) and Toronto Varsity Blues (16) will all also send a large number of boats to the regatta in hopes of bringing back medals to their campuses. The Carleton Ravens, Waterloo Warriors, Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, Laurentian Voyageurs will also compete from St. Catharines on Saturday.
The regatta will see adaptive, open weight, light weight and novice competitors compete in singles, pairs, doubles, fours, and eights. The rowers will compete on a 7-lane, 2000m course and the action will start at 8am with the heats and finish up around 4pm after the finals are over (schedule subject to change).
