Weekend Wrap: Nancy Storrs Ontario Indoor Rowing Championships Run from Ridley

Winter temperatures were stretching into March over the weekend, but the action indoors on the erg was heating up in St. Catharines with the running of the Nancy Storrs Ontario Indoor Rowing Championships.

Hosted by the Ridley Graduate Boat Club and Ridley College, the Nancy Storrs Ontario Indoor Rowing Championships took place from its long-time home at the Ridley College Fieldhouse on Saturday, Feb. 28. The indoor regatta saw an increase in competitors from last year, with 554 entries from 37 clubs or high school programs.

The athletes competed in U13, U15, junior high school, senior high school, open and masters race categories over 500m, 1000m or 2000m distances depending on the race category. The fastest 2000m time for the men went to William Babineau (Senior HS) of EL Crossley SS, who finished his race in a time of 6:13.6. On the women’s side Karina Biktimirova Senior HS of Sir Winston Churchill SS posted the fastest time of the day at 7:04.3.

The next indoor event on the Ontario rowing calendar is the McMaster 2×4 Challenge, which takes place March 21 at the Leander Boat Club.
