2021 RowOn Virtual Coaching Conference Announced with Eric Murray as Keynote Speaker

In partnership with AMP Rowing, Row Ontario announced on Thursday the structure and Keynote Speaker for the 2021 RowOn Virtual Coaching Conference.

The 2021 RowOn Virtual Coaching Conference will start on Sunday, Nov. 28 and run until Sunday, Dec. 5.  Like last year’s conference, there will be five lecture sessions including a keynote address with two-time Olympic gold medalist Eric Murray. In addition to the five lecture sessions, this year’s conference will feature four limited participation ‘Fireside Chat’ sessions. The Fireside Chat sessions will offer greater interaction between the presenter and attendees. Details of all the topics, presenters and how to register will be released in the coming months.

“Row Ontario is once again grateful for the opportunity to partner with AMP Rowing on coaching education,” said Andrew Backer, CEO of Row Ontario. “The ability to bring someone of Eric Murray’s experience and pedigree to the RowOn Virtual Coaching Conference is very exciting and comes due to AMP’s contacts in the rowing world. This year’s conference will once again be a unique educational experience for all of Ontario’s coaches.”

In addition to winning Olympic gold medals in the men’s coxless pair in 2012 and 2016, Murray is also an eight-time World Rowing champion. He was the bow member of the famous New Zealand pair along with teammate Hamish Bond, and the Kiwi duo went on an unprecedented run of 69 unbeaten races from 2009 to 2016. Having a run of this length, while incredible, does not come without its ups and downs, and many challenges along the way. Murray’s belief was that he had to train harder and smarter than anyone else so that even on a bad day they could still win. This philosophy drove them to the success they experienced which included setting two world records and several indoor rowing machine records. The title of his keynote address is ‘Sustaining Success: How to Keep a Physical and Mental Edge for Performance’.

“AMP Rowing is excited to once again be partnering with Row Ontario in the presentation of the RowOn Virtual Coaching Conference,” said Al Morrow, Partner, AMP Rowing. “The conference will provide a unique experience for coaches at all levels, with increased interactive sessions and thought-provoking topics. This will be a great opportunity for all coaches.”

AMP Rowing was established in 2018 by three long time members of the rowing community, Al Morrow, Michelle Darvill and Peter Cookson. All three principals in AMP Rowing are well known in the international rowing community, having collectively been involved in various capacities at over 45 World Championships and nine Olympic Games. In total, the three partners of AMP Rowing have over 100 years of experience in all aspects of rowing from involvement at the community level to Olympic rowing.
