Announcing the 2019 ROWONTARIO Provincial Team Coaches

ROWONTARIO is pleased to announce the coaching team that will lead the 2019 ROWONTARIO Provincial Teams.  The U17 and U19 Provincial Teams will race at the 2019 National Rowing Championships (NRC’s) and the Canada Cup Regatta (CCR) in September. Athletes will race in the 1X at the NRC’s and the 4X at the CCR.

Horacio Tendilla Rocha (Don Rowing Club) has been named as coach of our U19 Men and Katie Bruggeling (Queen’s University/Kingston Rowing Club) will handle the duties as our U19 Women’s coach. This is the first year for our U19 program.

Mary Rao (St. Catharines Rowing Club) will coach our U17 Men and Zak Lewis (Ottawa Rowing Club/University of Ottawa) has been tabbed to coach our U17 Women. These coaches will start immediately to coordinate their respective athletes and programs and work towards successful performances at the NRC’s and CCR’s.

In addition to our coaching team Michelle Darvill (Women) and Amanda Schweinbenz (Men) will work with both coaches and athletes in mentorship roles.  As mentors, Michelle and Amanda will engage with the team to enhance the learning and growth opportunities that exist as part of our Provincial Teams.

ROWONTARIO’s High Performance Manager, Chris Marshall was very pleased with the response to our call for coaches and is excited to see the impact this group has on our athlete’s:

“I am very excited with the team of coaches and mentor’s that we have been able to assemble for our 2019 teams. There was an overwhelming response to our call for coaches and I am impressed with the quality and pedigree of our group. There were several difficult decisions made to narrow the group to its current state. I anticipate this group of coaches creating a superb high-performance environment for our athlete’s. The addition of Michelle and Amanda will further enhance the experience for both athlete’s and coaches as they have vast experience, specifically high-performance international experience, to share with both groups alike” – Chris Marshall, High Performance Manager, ROWONTARIO.

Please join us in congratulating and welcoming our group of coaches to the TEAM!
