Call for Expressions of Interest: Row Ontario Sanctions Committee

The deadline to submit expressions of interest for the Row Ontario Sanctions Committee is March 15, 2021.

Row Ontario is seeking expressions of interest to fill three (3) positions on the Row Ontario Sanctions Committee (ROSC).

The mandate of the ROSC is to provide an effective event sanctioning service to member clubs and associations that is timely, adheres to the RCA Rules of Racing and Sanction Policy, and offers support to members to enhance the safety and fairness of regattas held in Ontario.

The ROSC meets at least twice a year, with most committee business being conducted via email and conference call.

Candidate Profile
This is an ideal opportunity for members of the Ontario rowing community who have experience on a regatta organizing committee, either as a Regatta Chair or as a Chief Umpire.

The ideal candidate will possess an in-depth understanding of the RCA Rules of Racing and an understanding of how they are applied at regattas of various size, level of competition and geographic location. Collaboration with fellow committee members is a must, as well as strong oral and written communication. The ideal candidate must be available to review sanction applications in a timely fashion (within 48 hours of submission).

As well as reviewing sanction applications and providing recommendations to the Sanctions Officer, the ROSC provides advice to the Row Ontario Board of Directors on policies and procedures related to regatta sanctioning and event management. From time to time, the ROSC will also provide advice to Member Clubs and Associations, via Row Ontario staff, to help standardize and improve the quality of events hosted in Ontario. The full Terms of Reference is available here.

The position reports to the Row Ontario Sanctions Officer, who reports directly to the CEO.

Application Process
The individual should be available to hold the role for a two (2) year term.

Expressions of interest should be submitted by March 15, 2021 to sanctions@rowontario.ca with “Row Ontario Sanctions Committee Expression of Interest” in the subject line. Please include details of your involvement in rowing, particularly as it relates to the candidate profile described above. Inquiries or questions about this position can be sent to Stephen Ross (stephen@rowontario.ca) Row Ontario’s Manager of Events and Sport Development.

While we appreciate all applications, only those selected for an interview or named to the committee will be contacted.
