
Call for Expressions of Interest – Row Ontario Umpires Committee
Row Ontario (RO) is seeking expressions of interest from RCA Licensed, Associate and Assistant Umpires to fill three (3) positions on the RO Umpires Committee.
The purpose of the Umpires Committee is to
- provide advice to the Row Ontario Board on Board related policies;
- promote umpiring and the umpire program throughout Ontario,
- through the implementation of the RCA Umpire Licensing program and other professional development opportunities standardize and improve the quality of umpiring in Ontario, and
- ensure that there is a robust cadre of Umpires with the appropriate education and development to ensure safety and fairness at all rowing competitions in Ontario, and to represent Ontario at national rowing competitions governed by RCA.

The RO Umpires Committee meets at least 4 times a year, with the majority of the committee business conducted by email and virtual meetings.
Candidate Profile
This is an opportunity for an Umpire who enjoys collaborating with an expert team, and is able to identify tasks that need doing and is willing to do them. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential, as effective communication with the rest of the committee, with RO staff, and with the umpiring community at large is essential. RO is seeking to broaden representation on the committee this year and will consider applications from newly licensed Umpires, as well as Associate and Assistant Umpires.
Candidates will have these skills and attributes combined with the following:
- Registered as an umpire with Row Ontario; and
- Actively involved in umpiring at regattas in Ontario.
The position reports to the Chair of the RO Umpires Committee.
