Canada Summer Games Coaching Update
On Tuesday Feb. 15, Row Ontario announced that Dr. Amanda Schweinbenz has stepped down as the Lead Coach for the 2022 Canada Summer Games.
“We are saddened by this news, but we appreciate that it was a difficult decision as well as Amanda’s reasons for stepping down,” said Andrew Backer, CEO of Row Ontario. “We wish Amanda all the best and are thankful for everything she has done for Row Ontario and specifically the provincial high-performance program.”
After a successful 2017 Jeux Canada Summer Games, Schweinbenz was appointed as the Lead Coach for Row Ontario’s 2021 Jeux Canada Games team. Upon being hired as Row Ontario first NextGen Performance Coach in August 2020, her role as CSG Head Coach was embedded into her roles and responsibilities as the NGPC.
When the 2021 Games were postponed to 2022 and knowing Schweinbenz was scheduled to return from her sabbatical at Laurentian in September 2021, the plan remained for her to continue as the CSG Lead Coach.
With the recent news, Row Ontario will begin the selection process to name a qualified female coach who will work with the rest of the coaching staff and apprentice coach, leading up to and while at the Games.
