Row Ontario Announces 2020-26 Strategic Plan

Row Ontario has charted a course for the next quadrennial with the announcement of the 2020-26 Strategic Plan.

The 2020-26 Strategic Plan was approved by the Row Ontario Board of Directors in April. Row Ontario created a 2020-24 Strategic Plan in late-2019 after a collaborative process that included surveys of Ontario rowing clubs, one-on-one interviews with stakeholders, focus groups and a strategic planning session at the 2019 Ontario Rowing Association Conference. A one-year extension to that plan was announced in June of 2020, however due the shifting landscape of the Ontario rowing community and the greater sport community brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic over the last two years, a new Strategic Plan for the next four years was necessary.

“Under normal circumstances we would be half-way through our current strategic plan, and would be going through a mid-cycle evaluation,” said Andrew Backer, CEO of Row Ontario. “However, the world is in a different place today than it was two years ago and we needed to take a hard look at the plan we set in 2020 and evaluate whether its direction was still relevant. We’ve incorporated new components into the strategic plan which better reflect where the sport of rowing in Ontario is currently at and where it will be. We are extremely excited to meet the goals we’ve set out in the strategic plan and look forward to working in partnership with all stakeholders to advance growth of the sport of rowing in Ontario over the next four years.”

The 2020-26 Strategic Plan features Vision and Mission statements as well as the five core values of Collaboration, Equity, Excellence, Innovation and Integrity, that will guide all activities and actions of the organization. Ten new or updated strategic goals have been identified as critical to ensure the sport of rowing continues to grow and develop. The strategic goals fall under the four strategic pillars of Sustainability, Engagement, Sport Delivery and Athlete Development.
