Row Ontario Board of Directors Update

Row Ontario completed the election process for their Board of Directors at the association’s Annual Meeting on Wednesday.

Pippa Hobbes was re-elected by the Row Ontario membership during the AGM and will remain in her position as Chair. Hobbes was selected as Chair of the Board of Directors during a board meeting following the 2020 Annual Meeting in November and has served in that role over the last 10 months. Hobbes served as Row Ontario’s Treasurer from 2017-19 and re-joined the Board in August 2020 after filling a vacant Director position.

The Board also welcomed a new member on Wednesday as Peter Van Rooijen was elected by the Row Ontario membership. Van Rooijen will bring skills that he has developed in leadership roles both in business and within the rowing community to the Board. He has identified key areas of concern for rowing following the recent experience with the pandemic and brings to the table enthusiasm and ideas to face those concerns and challenges.

Row Ontario would like to thank outgoing Board Member Chris Waddell for his commitment and dedication during his time served on the Board. Chris joined the Row Ontario Board in 2014 and served as President from 2016-20. During that time, he helped the organization grow and reach new heights and displayed calm and steady leadership throughout the uncertainty of the last two years. We thank Chris for his time on the Board and wish him the best with all his future endeavours.

Row Ontario’s Board of Directors consists of volunteers with experience in rowing and strategic skills in different areas of governance. In addition, several committees work on specific aspects of delivering rowing in Ontario. At its 2014 Annual Meeting, Row Ontario’s members voted to move to a Policy Board, where the Board makes all governance decisions and delegates the responsibility for operations decisions exclusively to the Chief Executive Officer.
