Strong Ontario Contingent to Compete at 2026 World Rowing Championships
Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) recently announced the athletes who will represent Canada at the 2026 World Rowing Championships, taking place at the historic Bosbaan, in Amsterdam, Netherlands, from Aug. 24-30, 2026.
The top rowers from around the world will descend on the Netherlands for the event, which includes six men and 14 women from Canada’s senior national team. On the men’s side, five of the six athletes named to the team can trace their rowing roots to Ontario-based clubs, including 2020 Olympian Trevor Jones (Peterborough Rowing Club) who will compete in the men’s single. Ryan Clegg (Western Rowing), Steven Rosts (Ridley Graduate Boat Club), Samuel Stuart (London Rowing Club / Western Rowing) and Axel Ewashko (University of British Columbia / Brentwood College) will comprise the second men’s boat in the men’s four.
The women’s team will send three boats to the start line as the double, quad and eight will all compete against the world’s best. Four Ontario athletes will compete on the women’s squad, including two-time Olympic medalist Kristen Kit (St. Catharines Rowing Club), who will cox the women’s eight, Kristen Siermachesky (Brockville Rowing Club), Cassidy Deane (Kingston Rowing Club) and Grace Vandenbroek (Peterborough Rowing Club / Trent University). Deane will be competing in her fourth Senior World Rowing Championships while Siermachesky will compete in her third and Vandenbroek her second.
The Canadian team will travel to Europe for a pre-competition training camp ahead of the event. More than 850 athletes from 64 nations will compete across 23 boat classes as the world’s best crews race for championship titles.
