Updates to Row Ontario Spring Regatta Schedule
Row Ontario announced changes to its Spring regatta schedule in light of the COVID-19 pandemic on Thursday.
The Row Ontario Small Boat Trials, which were scheduled to take place in Welland, Ont. on May 23 have been postponed, with the hope they can be rescheduled later in the year. A possible rescheduling of the Small Boat Trials will be dependent on how the COVID-19 crisis progresses throughout the Spring and Summer months. The Small Boat Trials are an important event on the domestic calendar and the rescheduling of the event will be done in concert with key stakeholders throughout the rowing community.
In addition, the Tony Biernacki Sr. Memorial Regatta, which was also scheduled to take place in Welland on June 20, has been cancelled. Over the last 11 years, the ‘Tony B’ has become a staple of the early Summer racing calendar for Masters rowers in Ontario. Earlier in March, Row Ontario announced it was taking over hosting duties of the regatta from Brock University Rowing, who had hosted the annual event since its inception. Row Ontario hopes to host the event for the first time in 2021.
The City of Welland also announced earlier on Thursday they have extended the closure of all public facilities and the cancellation of any public events until June 30. For the full release from the City of Welland, please visit the following link.
The latest updates on the Summer regatta schedule will be provided during the Member Club Town Hall meeting on Wednesday, April 8.
