Weekend Preview: Jack Nicholson Head of the Martindale Runs Sunday
The Jack Nicholson Head of the Martindale will continue a busy September for rowing in Ontario when it takes place on Sunday for the first time in over two years.
This special Fall edition of the annual event will be held from its usual location on Martindale Pond. The Head of the Martindale is traditionally a Spring event held on Mother’s Day weekend in May but it was moved to September this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The event will feature singles racing only in men’s and women’s junior, open, veteran and lightweight categories. The head race starts at the 1000m of the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta course and is either one lap (4km) or two (8km) depending on the race category.
The Jack Nicholson Head of the Martindale is hosted by the Ridley Graduate Boat and was renamed in 2015 to honour the late Jack Nicholson, a legendary coach in Ontario rowing circles and one of the cornerstones of the Ridley Graduate Boat Club for many years.
