Weekend Preview: Ontario Ergometer Championships Headline Busy Weekend

The 2020 Ontario Ergometer Championships headline a busy winter weekend for the Ontario rowing community. The 33rd edition of the event will run on Saturday, Feb. 29 at Ridley College in St. Catharines, Ont.

In addition to the always exciting individual races, this year’s event will feature a mixed team relay for high school, junior and senior athletes for the first time in history. Each rower will complete a 500m leg before ‘passing the baton’ to their teammate in what figures to be a fast-paced and exciting event.

The indoor regatta will kick-off at 8am with the junior high school men’s race and finish up at approximately 4:15pm with the mixed senior high school relay capping off the day. Over 600 rowers will be competing at the event representing over 50 clubs from across the province. Late entries will be accepted at the door (pending lane availability).

RegattaSport and Hudson Boat Works are once again sponsoring the event and there will be information tables set up from Row Ontario, Canada Summer Games and five Ontario universities. The spacious Ridley College Field House will be outfitted with 30 racing Ergs for the day and a big screen projecting the race in progress will be set up for spectators in attendance.

In addition to the indoor rowing action, Row Ontario will also be running two coaching workshops this weekend throughout the province. An RCA Coach Weekend #1 workshop will be hosted by the Leander Boat Club in Hamilton, Ont. and an RCA Coach Weekend #2 workshop will be hosted by the Kingston Rowing Club in Kingston, Ont.
