Weekend Preview: Row Ontario Small Boat Regatta Runs on Saturday

The first regatta to be hosted by Row Ontario in 2022 will take place this weekend as the Row Ontario Small Boat Regatta will be hosted from Welland.

The event will take place on Saturday, May 14 on the South Course of the Welland International Flatwater Centre. In addition to providing a great early season race opportunity for Ontario rowers of all ages, the event will serve as the on-water measure for U19 athletes attempting selection to the RCA U19 Team. Performance at the Small Boat Regatta will also play a role in determining which aspiring Canada Summer Games athletes will be invited into the Final Selection camp.

The rowers will compete in either singles or pairs races over 2000m, with the format starting with time trials, followed be semi-finals and finals throughout the day in U17, U19, U21, U23 and Senior race categories. There are almost 100 entries in the race from 21 Ontario clubs, with the UWO Boat Club and St. Catharines Rowing Club having the most entries with 15. The Argonaut Rowing Club is next with ten, followed by Ridley College and the Leander Boat Club with nine.

The action will start at approximately 8am and finish around 4pm.
