
Weekend Wrap: Brock Invite Provides Final Test Before OUA’s
University rowers from 14 Ontario institutions descended on St. Catharines, ON over the weekend to take part in the Brock Invitational Regatta.
The annual regatta was the final test for the competitors before they participate in the 2023 OUA Rowing Championships, which will also take place on Martindale Waterways in St. Catharines, on Oct. 27-28. The Brock Invite was hosted by the Brock Rowing Club and featured 244 entries across varsity and novice categories. The hosts had the most entries in the event with 35, in what was a well-attended regatta with 11 schools entering 13 or more boats.
The Queen’s Gaels (7 gold, 3 silver, 4 bronze) and host Brock Badgers (6 gold, 3 silver, 5 bronze) showed their form in the varsity categories, earning 14 medals each to lead the regatta. Next on the medal tally was the Western Mustangs, who finished just behind with 13 (5 gold, 7 silver, 1 bronze). Also winning medals were the Carleton Ravens (1 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze), Ottawa Gee-Gees (2 silver, 2 bronze), Toronto Varsity Blues (1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze), Guelph Gryphons (3 bronze) and Trent Excalibur (1 silver).
There were six novice division heats run as well in the W8+ (2 heats), M8+ (2 heats), W4+, and M4+. The RMC Paladins won two heats in the M8+ and W8+ respectively. Also earning first place in those heats were Trent (W8+), Western (M8+), Brock (M4+) and the Waterloo Warriors (W4+).
