Weekend Wrap: CORA Welland Regatta Headlines Weekend


The annual CORA Welland Regatta took centre stage this past weekend as rowers descended to the South Course in Welland on Saturday, July 5.

A total of 17 clubs competed in the event comprising 354 entries, which was up by 17 entries from 2024. The 17 participating clubs all came from the Central Ontario region and many sent large teams, with 13 clubs entering nine or more boats. The rowers competed in U17, U19, Senior, and Masters age categories in a wide variety of boat classes.

The St. Catharines Rowing Club narrowly topped the Argonaut Rowing Club in the overall medal standings, coming away with 26 medals (12 gold, 10 silver, 4 bronze). Argos however earned the most gold medals with 13, to go along with eight silver and four bronze. The Leander Boat Club (14), Hanlan Boat Club (13), Niagara Falls Rowing Club (13), South Niagara Rowing Club (12) and Guelph Rowing Club (11) also had strong days on the water, reaching double digits in medals won.

Other clubs earning medals on Saturday included the Don Rowing Club (9), Notre Dame Rowing Club (7), Ridley Graduate Boat Club (7), Niagara Rowing School (5), Durham Rowing Club (4), London Western Rowing Club (4), Island Lake Rowing Club (3) and Cambridge Rowing Club (1).

There will not be a long wait for the next CORA regatta as the CORA Championships take place from Martindale Pond in St. Catharines on Saturday, July 12.
