Weekend Wrap: Ontario Athletes Reach Podium at NRC’s

The RCA National Rowing Championships took place over the weekend from Quamichan Lake in Duncan, BC and saw many athletes from Ontario on the national podium.

Jointly hosted by RCA and Maple Bay Rowing Club, the NRC’s was taking place for the first time on Quamichan, the new home of the RCA National Team. Over 250 athletes from 45 different clubs from across the country raced at NRC’s, which ran over two days on Friday and Saturday. Athletes from Ontario medaled in 15 of the 17 medal events, which included para events and men’s and women’s singles, lightweight singles and pairs across U19, U23 and Senior race categories. Ontario also received both the Provincial Points Challenge Efficiency Award and the Provincial Points Challenge Grand Champion Award for performance at the regatta.

In addition to the award winners highlighted in the results below, Ontario’s Cait Whittard was named the recipient of the Bobby Pearce Award for Female Junior Athlete of the Year and Lucas Maroney and Owen Bartel were named the recipients of the Jack Guest Award for Male Junior Athlete of the Year. All three athletes competed on the Team Ontario Canada Summer Games team over the summer.
