Weekend Wrap: SCRC Early Bird Kicks Off 2026 Regatta Season


The start of the 2026 regatta season took place over the weekend as the St. Catharines Rowing Club’s annual Early Bird Regatta was hosted on Sunday, April 26.

Hosted on the Henley Course in St. Catharines, the regatta featured a total of 22 high school rowing programs, primarily from the Niagara area as well as Toronto and New York state. The regatta had a total of 109 entries, with the high school-aged athletes competing in singles, doubles, pairs, quads, fours and eights in men’s, women’s and mixed junior, senior and novice divisions. Thirteen of the competing programs earned first place finishes, with Branksome Hall (Toronto) and West Niagara SS (Grimsby) leading the way with four gold medals. Denis Morris CHS (St. Catharines), Notre Dame HS (Welland), Ridley College (St. Catharines), Upper Canada College (Toronto), and each earned three golds, followed by St. Francis CSS (St. Catharines), Sir Winston Churchill (St. Catharines) and Saint Paul CSS (Niagara Falls) with two.

Other schools earning first place finishes included Nardin Academy (Buffalo), Blessed Trinity CSS (Grimsby), Holy Cross CSS (St. Catharines) and AN Meyer SS (Niagara Falls). The next regatta of the season in Ontario will also take place on Henley Course in St. Catharines as the Mother’s Day Regatta will run on Sunday, May 10.
