
Weekend Wrap: Thunder Bay Sprints Returns
The Thunder Bay Sprints returned over the weekend as the Thunder Bay Rowing Club hosted their annual regatta on Saturday, June 25.
The Thunder Bay Rowing Club’s members (19 entries) took on rowers from four Minnesota-based clubs at the event, as the Lake Phalen Rowing Club (19) from St. Paul, Long Lake Rowing Crew (18), Duluth Rowing Club (12), and Minneapolis Rowing Club (8) all sent sizeable teams across the border. The regatta took place on the Kaministiquia River from 8am until 3pm and featured singles, doubles, pairs, quads, and fours across U17, U19, Masters, and Open men’s women’s, and mixed divisions.
The hometown Thunder Bay Rowers had a strong showing on their home course, earning three gold and four silver medals. The Minneapolis Rowing Club brought home the most medals with 12 (2 gold, 6 silver, 4 bronze), while the Long Lake Rowing Crew earned the most gold medals with five, to go along with a silver and three bronze. Lake Phalen also claimed nine medals (3 gold, 3 silver, 3 silver) and Duluth earned seven (3 gold, 1 silver, 3 bronze).
