Weekend Wrap: WOSSR Final Test Before CSSRA’s
High school-aged rowers from six Ontario rowing clubs and high school programs got in their final in-competition strokes before the CSSRA Championships over the weekend at the WOSSR Rowing Championships at Fanshawe Lake in London, Ont.
The Ontario contingent of rowers were joined by three high school programs from Michigan for the event, which took place on Saturday and featured heats in the morning followed by the Finals in the afternoon. This was the first WOSSR Rowing Championships to be hosted since 2019 and included 129 entries across the full gamut of race categories.
A highly competitive day of action saw the Argonaut Rowing Club walk away with the most medals as they claimed a total of 14 include nine gold, four silver and one bronze. Sir Winston Churchill S.S. of St. Catharines was next on the medal tally with 12 (8 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze), followed by the Don Rowing Club (3 gold, 5 silver, 2 bronze) and Niagara Falls Rowing Club (3 gold, 4 silver, 3 bronze) with ten apiece. London’s Sir Frederick Banting S.S. also brought home several medals competing on their home course with one silver and 3 bronze.
The CSSRA Championship begin on Friday in St. Catharines and will take place over three days from June 2-4.
