Concept2 RowErg Contest Announced for A Most Beautiful Thing Initiative

Ontario rowing clubs now have an opportunity to win a new Concept2 RowErg™ for their club as Row Ontario announced on Tuesday a contest involving the viewing of the rowing film A Most Beautiful Thing at the Canadian Sport Film Festival on May 14-16.

The Ontario rowing club whose members buy the most tickets to watch the film will receive a new Concept2 RowErg for their members to enjoy. Ticket sales will be tracked through the TIFF Bell Lightbox Platform. When buying a ticket, there is a section to indicate which Ontario rowing club the ticket purchaser belongs to. Whichever club has the most tickets purchased by the close of ticket sales will receive a fantastic new RowErg along with bragging rights among their Ontario rowing counterparts.

The donation of the erg for the contest was made possible thanks to a joint effort by Concept2 and Skye Health, a health and wellness clinic in London, Ont.

“Concept2 recognizes the strength of rowing to bring communities together,” said Meredith Breiland, Marketing, Concept2. “We’re excited for Ontario athletes to share in the experience of watching A Most Beautiful Thing. It is an impactful film! We’re excited to encourage a bit of inter-club competition to benefit IDEA and grow opportunities through Row Ontario.”

“Skye Health is a proud Black-owned business supporting Row Ontario and the CSFF in bringing A Most Beautiful Thing to Canada,” said Kubet Weston, who in addition to being the owner and one of the physiotherapists at Skye Health is also a former national team rower and a member of Row Ontario’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee. “We hope the Concept2 RowErg fuels the competitive spirit at our clubs in Ontario with all ticket sale proceeds going towards the IDEA Fund.  Rowing is an amazing sport – and the power of sport to affect the social determinants of health, create opportunities, and inspire change resonates throughout this film.”

The winner of the contest will be announced after the weekend of May 14-16 when the film will be viewed. Tickets are able to be purchased until May 14.

A Most Beautiful Thing is based on the memoir by Arshay Cooper, is an inspiring and uplifting documentary about Cooper and his teammates from Manley Career Academy High School on Chicago’s West Side, who formed the first African American High School rowing team in the United States. This powerful story chronicles the barriers team members broke to be able to participate in rowing and the resulting impact on their lives and legacies. Tickets to view the film virtually are available to anyone across the country.

A portion of the ticket sales will be put towards the Row Ontario IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility) Fund. Grants from the IDEA Fund will allow Row Ontario member clubs to fund programs to create a more diverse, inclusive, and accessible rowing community in Ontario.

Tickets can be purchased through the TIFF Bell Lightbox website at A Most Beautiful Thing.

Donations to the Row Ontario IDEA Fund can be made at Support the Row Ontario IDEA Fund.
