Conny Draper Headlines RowOn Coaching Conference as Keynote Speaker

The RowOn Coaching Conference is just over a month away and in partnership with AMP Rowing, Row Ontario announced on Tuesday that Dr. Conny Draper will headline the conference as the keynote speaker.

The 2022 RowOn Coaching Conference will take place in Welland, Ont., and will mark the return of an in-person conference for the first time since 2019. Welland will welcome the Ontario rowing community on Dec. 3-4 for a two-day conference which, along with the keynote speech by Draper, will feature a full slate of lecture sessions on Saturday and three limited participation ‘Fireside Chat’ sessions on Sunday.

“Row Ontario is excited to welcome the Ontario rowing community to Welland for this year’s Conference and can’t wait to sit it on Dr. Conny Draper’s keynote speech,” said Andrew Backer, CEO of Row Ontario. “With her extensive international background in biomechanics for rowing, Conny will bring a new element to the conference that we know all the rowing coaches in the audience will value and appreciate. We’re grateful for our partners AMP Rowing and all the work they’ve put in with helping organize this year’s conference and suggesting Conny as the keynote speaker. Her keynote speech will be a great way to kick off the conference.”

One of the world’s leading experts in biomechanics for rowing, Draper has worked as a consultant with national rowing teams, universities, and clubs for the past nine years. She specializes in on-water rowing and para-rowing biomechanics, providing multi-dimensional technical and performance analysis and collaborates with coaches, athletes, and support staff to maximize technique efficiency and improve performance and speed. Prior to becoming a full-time consultant, Draper worked at the Australian Institute of Sport from 2008-13 where she served as the Senior Sports Biomechanist for rowing. In addition to her rowing background, she has experience working with athletes in other sports such as canoe/kayak, diving, swimming, and athletics.

“On behalf of AMP Rowing and our partners at Row Ontario I can say that we are all very much looking forward to a return to an in-person conference this year,” said Al Morrow, Partner, AMP Rowing. “It will be great to provide in-person coaching education again in a conference format after two years running the conference virtually. We think we’ve developed a unique experience for coaches at all levels with an interesting and diverse schedule of sessions and look forward to seeing everyone in December.”

The remaining speakers, session schedule and registration information for the 2022 RowOn Coaching Conference will be released in the coming days.

AMP Rowing was established in 2018 by three long time members of the rowing community, Al Morrow, Michelle Darvill and Peter Cookson. All three principals in AMP Rowing are well known in the international rowing community, having collectively been involved in various capacities at over 45 World Championships and nine Olympic Games. In total, the three partners of AMP Rowing have over 100 years of experience in all aspects of rowing from involvement at the community level to Olympic rowing.
