SCRC Receives Vital Support from Government of Ontario’s Community Building Fund
In 2021, the St. Catharines Rowing Club received a $50,000 grant from the Government of Ontario’s Community Building Fund – Operating stream. This grant, delivered by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), will support the Club’s capacity and fund the salary of its appointed Captain, Jim Marino, for one year. It will allow Mr. Marino, the Club’s Board of Directors, and the coaches to develop and manage athlete recruitment at all levels to redesign and rebuild programs that have been devastated by the impacts of COVID-19 and the resulting shut-downs.
“Getting back to participating in sport is a big piece of coming out the other side of the pandemic towards true recovery,” said Jennie Stevens, MPP for St. Catharines. “A grant like this one that supports rowing and its rich history in St. Catharines is positive for the community and positive for the club’s athletes, who have been successful in local, national and international competition – including at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, when Kristen Kit of St. Catharines won a gold medal as coxswain of the Canadian Women’s Eight.”
“The Club is incredibly grateful to OTF for this timely and needed funding as we work to recover from the impact of COVID-19 on our Club and the sport of rowing,” said Rick Crooker, President of the St. Catharines Rowing Club.
