Two Fireside Chat Sessions Announced for 2021 RowOn Virtual Coaching Conference
In partnership with AMP Rowing, Row Ontario announced on Thursday two of the presenters for the ‘Fireside Chat’ sessions that will be part of the 2021 RowOn Virtual Coaching Conference.
The first two Fireside Chat presenters announced for this year’s conference are two of the most accomplished coaches in the country, Michelle Darvill and Carol Love. Darvill will be leading a session titled Building a Successful Team, while Love will be leading a session titled Effective Drills and Skills to Implement Technique Changes with Athletes.
“Row Ontario is thrilled to announce Michelle and Carol as two of the presenters at this year’s Conference,” said Andrew Backer, CEO of Row Ontario. “To have these two accomplished coaches with Ontario roots as part of the RowOn Virtual Coaching Conference is very exciting. We believe these Fireside Chat sessions will be a great addition to the Conference this year and will give the attendees a unique and meaningful educational experience.”
Darvill has been a successful coach at all levels of the sport, most recently as a national team coach with Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA), where she coached the women’s eight to a gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. She got her start rowing at the University of Toronto and went on to become a three-time World Champion for both Canada and Germany. She was a world champion in the LW1x (1993) for Canada and a world champion in the LW2x (1997) and WL4x (2000) for Germany. Darvill was also a member of the German Olympic team in 1996.
Love is currently Rowing Canada’s NextGen Coach and Athlete where she is responsible for delivering world class athlete development practices to coaches and athletes in the high performance pathway. Over her coaching career Carol has had a significant impact in athlete identification and development in Canada working domestically, provincially, and internationally. A trail blazer in rowing, Love was a member of the 1976 Canadian Olympic rowing team in Montreal, the first Olympics to feature women’s rowing. Following her athletic career, she went on to a long and successful coaching career with Trent University, Peterborough Rowing Club, Row Ontario, and RCA working with athletes at a wide range of skill levels.
“Michelle and Carol’s coaching résumés speak for themselves,” said Al Morrow, Partner, AMP Rowing. “They are both tremendous coaches and have experienced a great deal of success at different levels of the sport. Their insights into coaching will be a huge benefit to the session’s attendees and AMP Rowing is excited to announce them as the first two Fireside Chat speakers at this year’s Conference.”
The 2021 RowOn Virtual Coaching Conference will start on Sunday, Nov. 28 and run until Sunday, Dec. 5. Like last year’s conference, there will be five lecture sessions including a keynote address with two-time Olympic gold medalist Eric Murray. In addition to the five lecture sessions, this year’s conference will feature four limited participation ‘Fireside Chat’ sessions. The Fireside Chat sessions will offer greater interaction between the presenter and attendees. Details on the remaining topics, presenters and how to register will be released in the coming months.
