Weekend Wrap: Toronto and Ottawa Host Events on Last Weekend of August
The Argonaut Rowing Club hosted their annual Hogtown Heats Regatta in Toronto while the Ottawa New Edinburgh Club hosted the Canadian Sculling Marathon on the Ottawa River over the weekend.
The Hogtown Heats is a 750m sprint regatta for recreational, youth, women’s, men’s and mixed crews of doubles, fours, quads and eights. The races took place on the Western Beaches course at the Argonaut Rowing Club and featured competitors from Argo’s, the Barrie Rowing Club, Cambridge Rowing Club, Island Lake Rowing Club and Wellington Sculling Club. Every club who entered ended up bringing home a gold medal, as the Wellington Sculling Club, Barrie Rowing Club, and Cambridge Rowing Club each earned one gold, the Island Lake Rowing Club won three gold, and the host Argo’s topped the clubs with four golds.
The Canadian Sculling Marathon ran on Sunday and welcomed rowers from across the province. This year’s edition of the CSM was the 18th in history and featured two touring distances, a full marathon (42 km) and a half marathon (21km). The participants rowed on the Ottawa River and launched and finished at the ONEC docks. The unique event was inspired by the world-renowned Canadian Ski Marathon with emphasis on participation, fitness, endurance, and fun. ONEC partners with the Ontario Adventure Rowing Association (OAR) for this event.
