The 51st edition of the Head of the Trent ran over the weekend as university and club rowers flocked to Peterborough from across the province and beyond.

The two-day event featured almost 600 rowers from a total of 59 clubs from Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Alberta, Maryland and Great Britain. The rowing action took place in front of an enthusiastic crowd, which cheered on university, alumni and club competitors across men’s, women’s and mixed categories in a full range of boat classes.

In University action, which included varsity, junior varsity and novice competitors, the top performing programs of the regatta were the Brock Badgers and Western Mustangs, who each earned 12 medals with identical totals of four gold, five silver and three bronze. While the Queen’s Gaels didn’t earn as many medals, they also had an impressive regatta claiming the most gold medals with seven to go along with two silvers and one bronze. McGill University (3 gold, 4 bronze) and the University of Montreal (1 gold, 4 silver, 1 bronze) rounded out the top-5 of the medal tally. The club categories ranged from youth to masters rowers and the Argonaut Rowing Club’s rowers proved their form by winning the most medals with 15 (8 gold, 4 silver, 3 bronze). The Ottawa Rowing Club came in second in the medal tally with 12 (4 gold, 5 silver, 3 bronze), followed by the Leander Boat Club with nine (3 gold, 2 silver, 4 bronze), the Don Rowing Club with seven (2 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze), and the hometown Peterborough Rowing Club with six (4 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze).
